Salt air & humidity — materials that last on the coast
Hardware that looks fine in Rancho Santa Fe can pit in a Cardiff winter. We specify kitchens, baths, and ADU envelopes for marine air because callbacks on cheap metal are more expensive than doing it once.
Metals
Uncoated steel, cheap plated bathroom sets, and some outdoor fasteners corrode quickly west of I-5. We talk through finish systems that can live here, including quality brass and stainless where it belongs — not a catalog finish that was never tested on a marine lot.
Wet areas
Coastal humidity finds every gap in a shower pan. Rebuilding waterproofing is usually smarter than tiling over a 1970s pan in Solana Beach or Del Mar Heights. That is why bathroom cost ranges on our city pages assume a real wet-area rebuild more often than a cosmetic swap.
Envelope
